If you have failed in the 10th or 12th class from NIOS Open School, CBSE, or any State Board, you can apply for NIOS admission. If you are a failed 10th or 12th class student and have an original marksheet showing failed or compartment status, you are eligible to apply for the TOC (Transfer of Credit) facility under the NIOS Board.
What is TOC (Transfer of Credit) in NIOS Open School?
TOC (Transfer of Credit) is a facility available only to students who have not failed in all subjects in their 10th or 12th exams from any recognized board. This feature allows students to transfer their marks from previously passed subjects to their NIOS mark sheet, provided that the same subjects are included in the NIOS subject scheme.
Important Guidelines for TOC:
✔ Students must check the NIOS subject TOC scheme and the list of recognized boards eligible for TOC before applying.
✔ TOC is available for up to two passed subjects from the previous board.
✔ Students who have failed in one, two, or three subjects can transfer marks from one or two passed subjects to their NIOS mark sheet.
Who is NOT Eligible for TOC?
❌ Students who have failed in all subjects in their previous 10th or 12th exams.
❌ Students who passed all subjects in their previous board exams (they must apply for an improvement exam instead).
❌ Students who failed in 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, or 11th class.
❌ Students who have crossed five years after failing in the 10th or 12th class.

A learner should seek Transfer of Credits (TOC) at the time of admission in the subjects which are included in OPEN SCHOOL scheme of studies.
The facility of TOC will be permissible under the following conditions:
A learner can transfer credit for up to two subjects from their parent board, provided they have passed these subjects with at least 33% marks within the last five years (i.e., in 2020 or later).
Important TOC Guidelines:
✔ Credit transfer is only allowed for subjects that are part of the NIOS Board’s Scheme of Studies and Examination.
✔ For Senior Secondary subjects with practicals, TOC is only granted if the student has passed both theory and practical components separately.
✔ Learners must submit the original marksheet issued by the parent board. Laminated marksheets will not be accepted.
Re-admission of Nios Open School Ex Learners
Learners enrolled with NIOS Board at the Secondary or Senior Secondary level who have exceeded the five-year validity period of their admission but could not complete the course are eligible for re-admission with NIOS Open School.
Re-Admission & Credit Transfer Guidelines:
✔ A maximum of four passed subjects from the previous admission can be transferred.
✔ To avail of this credit transfer, learners must submit their original marksheet.
✔ The subjects must have been passed through NIOS Open School within the last ten years (i.e., in 2016 or later).
